Dr Mike Rice is a highly experienced and well known educator. He graduated from the Johannesburg College of Education and taught at every level in primary and secondary schools from 1964 to 1971.
In 1972 he was appointed a lecturer in English at the University of the North. In 1976, he moved to the Johannesburg College of Education English Department. Literature, applied linguistics and methodology and was an accredited lecturer at the University of the Witwatersrand until 1992.
In 1993 he obtained a visiting Fellowship to the Poynter Institute for Media Studies, St Petersburg, Florida, USA. In 1994, he returned to SA where he was involved as a consultant in the restructuring of Education and Training for the new South Africa culminating in his appointment in 2002, as special advisor to the Minister of Education.
